CORNWALL DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Cornwall Democratic Committee joins the community of greater Cornwall in taking pride in the patriotic service to our Nation of our neighbor, friend and son of the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, General David H. Petraeus; and
WHEREAS, an organization known as MoveOn.org placed a full-page ad in the New York Times which ran on September 10, 2007, notably before General Petraeus began his testimony to Congress on the status of the Iraq war effort; and
WHEREAS the Cornwall Democratic Committee finds such a personal attack not only disrespectful but contrary to principles of free and open responsible debate of the issues in our representative political system;
NOW, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Cornwall Democratic Committee calls upon all those who seek to promote constructive discourse on our Nation’s foreign policy, regardless of their position on the Iraq war, to condemn such premature, intemperate and disrespectful speech.
